The Union Public Service Commission (UPSC) has released the official notification for the Indian Economic Service (IES) and Indian Statistical Service (ISS) Examination 2025.

The exam is conducted to recruit eligible candidates for prestigious positions in the Government of India under the Ministry of Statistics and Programme Implementation.

Qualification

For Indian Economic Service (IES):

  • A Post-Graduate Degree in Economics, Applied Economics, Business Economics, or Econometrics from a recognized university or institution.

For Indian Statistical Service (ISS):

  • A Bachelor’s Degree with Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, or Applied Statistics as one of the subjects OR
  • A Master’s Degree in Statistics, Mathematical Statistics, or Applied Statistics from a recognized university or institution.

Age Criteria

  • Candidates must be between 21 to 30 years old as of 1st August 2025.
  • Age Relaxation:
    • SC/ST: 5 years
    • OBC: 3 years
    • PwBD: 10 years
    • Ex-Servicemen: 5 years

Key Skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in statistical tools and economic theories
  • Excellent communication and report-writing skills
  • Ability to interpret and analyze economic and statistical data

Selection Process

The selection process consists of:

  1. Written Examination (1000 Marks)
  2. Interview/Personality Test (200 Marks)

The written exam includes:

  • For IES: General English, General Studies, General Economics-I, General Economics-II, General Economics-III, Indian Economics
  • For ISS: General English, General Studies, Statistics-I (Objective), Statistics-II (Objective), Statistics-III (Descriptive), Statistics-IV (Descriptive)

Salary

Selected candidates will be appointed under the Junior Time Scale with a pay scale of ₹56,100 – ₹1,77,500 (as per the 7th CPC Pay Matrix), along with additional benefits and allowances.
